About Mechanical Maintenance Engineer – Metals & Minerals in Jagatsinghapur
I stay over at quarter number Mb/280 in the Madhuban area of Paradip. Being a mechanical maintenance engineer in this part of Orissa means there is always something that needs fixing. Paradip is a port town, so the air is salty and things tend to rust or wear out faster than they should. Most of my day is spent checking on machines and making sure things aren't about to break down. It’s a lot of preventive work, which means getting greasy and crawling into tight spaces. I keep my tools handy at the house in Jagatsinghpur district. It’s not a fancy lifestyle. I spend a lot of time looking at valves, gears, and motors. My neighbors often see me coming home with dirt on my face and grease on my hands. I’ve been doing this for years and you just get a feel for when a machine isn't running right. I don't have a big staff or a company headquarters. It’s mostly just me responding to maintenance calls and keeping the equipment in the area running. Some days the weather is rough, especially when the storms come in from the coast, but the work has to be done regardless. I don't use a lot of technical jargon when I talk to people. I just tell them what’s broken and what I’m going to do to fix it. It's practical work that keeps the local industry moving forward day by day.
