Prakshi General Stores

Prakshi General Stores is located right near Halwai Mandir at Rampur Chowk. It is a busy part of Jabalpur, especially with people coming to the temple and all the traffic on Narmada Road. I’ve been working here for a while, and the routine is always the same. I open the shutters, put the displays out on the pavement, and wait for the first customers. We sell a bit of everything, from soap and toothpaste to large sacks of flour. The shop is long and narrow, so things are tucked into every corner. I have a small stool behind the wooden counter where I keep my accounts. The walls have some old calendars hanging on them. During the festivals, the area gets very crowded, and I barely have time to sit down. People from all over Jabalpur pass through here. I spend a lot of time talking to the suppliers who pull up their trucks at the chowk. It’s a lot of haggling and checking the weights. My apron usually has some flour dust on it by the afternoon. The overhead fan makes a clicking sound, but it helps with the heat. It is a simple business, really. We just provide the daily goods that the local families need. It’s been this way for years, and we just keep going. Nothing fancy about it, just a lot of hard work and keeping the stock ready for whoever walks in.
