Kamdhenu Provisions

Being near the railway crossing at Rampur Chowk means we hear the trains blowing their whistles all day and night. Our shop, Kamdhenu Provisions, is at 208/7, and it’s been a part of my family's life for a long time. Jabalpur is a busy city, and this spot sees a lot of traffic from people coming and going. People often end up stopping by our shop while they are waiting for the railway gates to open up, which happens quite a lot. We sell mostly the usual things that people need for their homes like dals, rice, some soaps, and loose tea leaves. It's a bit cramped inside the shop because we try to fit as much stock as we can on the old wooden shelves. The floor is made of old stone and it stays surprisingly cool even when the sun is beating down on the road outside. My brother and I take turns sitting behind the counter to handle the customers. We don't have a big neon sign, just the shop name painted in simple letters above the front door. If you live around this part of Jabalpur, you probably already know exactly where we are. We don’t bother with much marketing or trying to be modern. We just open up early in the morning, sweep the front step, and get everything ready for the first customers. Sometimes the dust from the road and the passing trains is a bit much, but you get used to it after a few years. It’s just a regular part of life.
