You can find Jai Durge General Stores in the Sadar area of Jabalpur. We are situated right besides the Panti Naka Petrol Pump and very close to the Shubh Kamana Hotel. It is a good spot because people stopping for fuel often realize they need something for their house or their car. I keep a lot of different things in stock, from batteries and bulbs to bags of rice and containers of cooking oil. The store isn't very modern looking. We have old wooden shelves that go all the way to the ceiling, and I have to use a small ladder to reach the stuff at the top. It’s a bit of a workout every day. Being near a hotel means we get some travelers who are just passing through and need basic things like a toothbrush or some snacks for their journey. I try to keep the place organized, but it’s hard when new stock arrives and there isn’t much room to put it. The floor is made of old stone and it stays relatively cool even when it is hot outside. I usually have the radio playing softly in the background to keep me company while I work. Most of our regulars are people who live in the Sadar quarters, and we know each other by name. It’s a steady job, and I don't plan on changing much. We just provide what the neighborhood needs and keep the doors open.
