About Govt. College Of Fine Arts - Applied Arts . – Art & Craft in Jabalpur
The Govt. College of Fine Arts is tucked away in the Kalaniketan campus in Jabalpur. Specifically, we focus on the Applied Arts side of things here. It is a government institution, so it has that specific feel with the high ceilings and the old wooden furniture that has probably been there since the college first opened. You will usually find students sitting around with their drawing boards or working on some design project in the studios. It is a bit messy sometimes with paint, ink, and scraps of paper everywhere, but that is just how an arts college is. We are right in the middle of Madhya Pradesh, and the weather can get quite dusty and dry. The faculty here are artists themselves, so they have a very practical way of looking at things. We do not have a lot of high-end digital gear, so there is a lot of focus on doing things by hand first. Students come from all over the state to study here. The atmosphere is generally quite relaxed compared to a regular science or commerce college. People are usually focused on their portfolios or talking about some exhibition. We have got a long history at this location, and the walls are covered in old student work from years ago. It is not a polished or shiny place, but it serves its purpose for anyone looking to spend their day making things and learning about art.
