Girish Stores

I run Girish Stores over on Tara Singh Road in the Gupteshwar area of Jabalpur. It’s a quiet enough street compared to the main city markets, but we still get a steady stream of people all day long. I started this shop because there weren't many places nearby to get fresh groceries without going all the way into the busy city center. We carry things like lentils, spices, cooking oil, and some basic stationery too. The store is part of a larger building and we have a small porch where I keep the broom and some of the larger sacks of flour. I try to keep the place tidy, but when the new stock arrives on Mondays, it can get a bit messy for a few hours. I usually handle everything myself, from the cleaning to the billing and stocking the shelves. Jabalpur has its own slow pace, and I think my store fits right in with that feeling. In the monsoon season, the rain can really come down hard on our tin roof, making it difficult to hear what the customers are saying, but we just shout a little louder. I enjoy the quiet morning hours when it’s just me and the milk delivery guy. We have a small fridge for curd and cold drinks, which is very popular during the hot summer months. It’s a humble setup, but it provides for my family and serves the people living around Gupteshwar well. I don't have a big sign or bright lights, just the shop name painted on the board above the door.
