Lakhanwada is a place where everyone seems to know everyone. Our shop, Craft Jada, is located right near Lid Chowk, which stays pretty crowded because of the bus stand right opposite us. You can always see people rushing to catch their buses or waiting around with their bags. Because we are so close to the stop, there is a lot of dust and noise coming in from the street all the time. We have been working out of this spot for a while. Inside, we have our tools and materials spread out. It is not a very large space, so we have to be careful where we step. The floor is usually covered in scraps from whatever project we are currently finishing. We don't have a big sign or a fancy entrance, just a door that stays open most of the day. People often wander in thinking we sell snacks or something because of the bus stand, and we have to tell them we just make crafts here. The humidity in this area can be a bit much during the monsoon, which makes the materials a little harder to work with. We just take it slow and do what needs to be done. It’s mostly just a few of us here, doing the work by hand and keeping an eye on the street. It’s a simple life, really, just making things and watching the buses go by every hour.
