R.K. Engneering

Down in Shibdangi Para, you'll find R.K. Engneering. We are right here in Islampur, which is part of the Uttar Dinajpur district. The shop is usually full of the sound of metal hitting metal or the hum of the machines. It’s a greasy kind of place, but that’s just how engineering shops are. My clothes usually have a few oil stains by the end of the day. We don't really have a showroom. People just come to the workshop with their parts or their plans. Most of the guys here have been working with their hands for years, so they know what they’re doing. The floor is concrete and usually has some metal shavings scattered around. We try to sweep up, but it just gets messy again in an hour. Shibdangi Para is a decent neighborhood to work in, though the power cuts can be a real pain when we are right in the middle of a job. We just wait it out and start back up when the lights come on. There isn’t any corporate talk here. We just talk about the tools and the projects we have on the bench. It’s a straightforward way to make a living. We take the work as it comes and try to do a solid job on every piece that comes through the door. It’s hard work, but it’s what we know. We close up when the work is finished, usually quite late.
