Rajendra Prasad Saha Dal & Oil Mill

My family has been here on Kalibadi Road for quite a long time now. We run the Rajendra Prasad Saha Dal & Oil Mill, and mostly it is just a lot of noise and bags of grain everywhere. People from all over Uttar Dinajpur come by or send their crops to us. Some days it is so busy you can't even see the floor because of the mustard seeds and lentils. We started small, just a couple of machines, but over the years we added a few more so we could handle the load. The smell of oil being pressed is something you never really get out of your clothes, but I don't mind it much. My father used to say the machines have their own language, and if you listen, you know when something is about to break. It's not a fancy place at all. The walls could use a fresh coat of paint and the floor is always covered in dust from the dal. We just focus on getting the work done and making sure the farmers get their stuff back on time. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we just sit outside on the bench until it comes back. It's just how things are here in this part of the district. We don't have a big office or anything like that. Just a desk with too many papers on it and a phone that rings more than it should.
