Dg Kamboj Ladies Tailors is tucked away in Dhan Singh Lohar Wali Glinya, right in the Bazar area of Indri, Karnal. It is a busy little street. If you walk down the alley, you will usually hear the sound of the sewing machines running. We spend our days surrounded by piles of colorful fabrics and different types of threads. There are measuring tapes draped around our necks and pins stuck in little cushions. People bring us their cloth and tell us exactly how they want their suits or blouses to fit. We do our best to follow those instructions. It is a lot of cutting and stitching. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to wait, or we use the older manual machines. The bazar is always full of life, with people buying their vegetables or clothes just a few steps away. We have been here in Indri for many years. Many of the ladies who come to us have been our customers since they were young girls. Now they bring their own daughters here. We do not have a fancy showroom with lights. It is just a workspace with a few mirrors and a place for people to sit while we take measurements. It gets a bit cramped when we have a lot of orders to finish, but we manage. We just keep stitching away, one piece at a time. It is a good trade and we enjoy seeing the finished clothes.
