Siddharth Leathers

We run Siddharth Leathers out here in Indore. It’s a place that smells strongly of leather all the time, which I suppose you get used to after a week or two. We work with all kinds of hides and skins. Every morning involves sorting through the new arrivals to see what we can use. Some pieces have marks or scars, so we have to be careful about how we cut them. It’s a very physical job. You’re always pulling, stretching, or marking things out on the big tables. Our equipment is old but it’s sturdy and we know how to fix it when it breaks down. We aren't some sleek leather boutique with soft lighting. Our workspace is more of a workshop with concrete floors and bright bulbs hanging from the ceiling. There’s usually some dust in the air and the sound of the cutting blades. We have a couple of guys who have been with us for years and they know the trade inside out. We don't spend time on social media or writing fancy descriptions. We just focus on the leather itself. Indore is a busy city and we just try to keep up with the local demand. It’s honest work and it keeps us busy from morning until the sun goes down. Sometimes we stay late when a big shipment comes in, but we don't mind the extra hours much. It's just the way things are in the leather trade.
