Giriraj Fabrics

Giriraj Fabrics is based in the Saket Nagar area. It is a simple, straightforward shop that is mostly filled with big rolls of different cloth. When you first walk in, the thing you will notice is the smell of the new fabric and maybe a little bit of dust in the air. We have wooden shelves that reach all the way up to the ceiling. Most of my day is spent unrolling long pieces of material for people to look at and then carefully rolling them back up again when they are done. It is actually a lot of physical work for your arms and shoulders. We have these big, heavy metal scissors that we use to cut the specific lengths that people want to buy. The floor is usually covered in small scraps of thread and little fabric clippings. We try to sweep it all up, but it just seems to pile up again by the middle of the day. Saket Nagar is a nice neighborhood and people find it fairly easy to get to us. We don’t have any fancy window displays or marketing posters. We just stack all the different colors together and let the customers touch the material for themselves. Sometimes a lady will stay for an hour just trying to decide between two very similar shades of green. We don’t mind at all. It is just part of how the business works. My family has been involved in this for a long time.
