Bhagatram Rajeev Kumar & Co. has been a name in this area for a long time. Siyaganj is always crowded, especially in the mornings when the shops are all opening up. It’s a traditional market area so there’s a lot of noise and people moving goods around. Our shop isn't very large, but we pack a lot into it. We've got shelves full of stuff and old ledgers lying around. It feels like a real old-school business. We know most of the other shopkeepers on the street. We drink chai together when it’s slow. Sometimes it gets so busy you can hardly walk on the pavement outside. We deal with whatever comes our way. It’s a lot of manual work, lifting things and counting stock. We don't use any fancy software for everything, just simple systems that have worked for years. It’s a family-style environment here. The police chowki is just a few steps away, so it’s a safe enough spot. We’ve seen the neighborhood change over the years, but we’re still here doing the same thing every day. We don't plan on moving anywhere else. It is just our way of life and we are quite content with the small space we have. Most days are long but we don't mind the hard work as long as things stay steady.
