Our workshop for Salunke Industries is based in Village Indapur, right at Post Bawada. It’s not far from the Swargate St Stand, so we see a lot of people passing through the area every day. We do a bit of everything here in terms of small-scale manufacturing. It started out as a hobby for my brother and me, but then it slowly turned into a full-time job. We have some old machines that we’ve repaired ourselves more times than I can count. They make a lot of noise, but they still get the job done properly. The village is a quiet place generally, but our shed is usually quite loud from morning until the evening. A formal office or anyone to answer the phones is something we don't have. If we are working, we usually can't hear the phone anyway over the sound of the motors. Most of our customers are locals from Bawada or the neighboring villages. They just drop by when they need something made or fixed. We use a lot of manual tools along with the machines. My hands are always stained with oil or grease, and there’s usually a pile of scrap metal sitting in the corner. We don't have a mission statement or any corporate goals. Finishing the work on time and doing a decent job is all we care about. It’s a simple life, and we like being our own bosses here. Sometimes we sit outside under the tree when the heat gets bad.
