Our shop is located in Pona Bazzar, right on Governor Road where there is always a lot going on. It’s a loud place because of the printing machines, but we’ve grown used to the constant rhythm of the rollers and the smell of the ink over the years. Most mornings start with us checking the ink levels and getting the paper ready for whatever jobs came in the day before. We deal with a lot of different kinds of paper, some thick and some thin, and there’s usually a bit of a mess on the floor by the time we finish a big run. The space isn’t very large, so we have to be careful about where we stack the finished piles so they don’t get knocked over or dusty. People come in from the bazaar with all sorts of requests, and we just do what we can to get it printed clearly for them. It’s a lot of manual work, adjusting the machines and making sure the alignment is right. We don’t have a big team, just a few of us who know how the equipment works. Sometimes a machine acts up and we have to spend an hour fixing it with a wrench and some oil, which gets our hands dirty. That’s just part of the job. Being on Governor Road means there’s always something happening outside, but we mostly stay focused on the trays and the presses until it's time to head home.
