Laishram Rice Mill

The machines at Laishram Rice Mill make a lot of noise, but it’s a sound we like. We are located in Kongba, over in the Laishram Leikai area. People bring their paddy here, and we process it for them. It’s a busy place, especially after the harvest season. There are always bags of grain stacked up against the walls. The air is full of the smell of husks and dust. It’s hard work, and you definitely get dirty doing it. We don't have a big marketing plan or a fancy office. Most of our work happens right there on the floor with the machines. We spend our days making sure everything is running right and that the rice is coming out clean. It’s a family kind of thing, really. We’ve been in Kongba for a long time, and everyone knows where the mill is. Sometimes the neighbors come by just to chat while they wait for their rice to be ready. We sit on plastic chairs and talk about the weather or the crops. It’s not a corporate environment at all. We wear our old clothes because the grease and dust get on everything anyway. We just focus on getting the work done so people can take their rice home to their families. It’s a simple, honest way to make a living, and we’re happy to be part of the community here.
