District Hospital Tamenglong

Up here in Tamenglong, everything is a bit of a climb. Our hospital is located in Ward No. 3, right at the headquarters. If you find the Medical Gate, you have found us. It is a hilly area, so the views from some of the upper windows are actually quite nice, though most of the time we are too busy to look out. The building is a typical government structure, very plain and built to last rather than to look good. We get a lot of people coming in from the hill villages. They often look tired by the time they reach the gate. The Medical Gate is a bit of a meeting point for everyone. You see people selling snacks or just hanging around talking. Inside the hospital, the air is a bit thinner and cooler than down in the valleys. We have these long hallways that echo when it is quiet at night. The wards are simple, just rows of beds and little lockers for people’s things. We don't have a big budget for decorations, so the walls are mostly bare except for some old health posters. We all know each other here because Tamenglong is a small community. You can’t walk down the hall without saying hello to someone you know. It is a humble place, and we just keep the doors open for whoever needs to come in. It is our local spot.
