Shanglen Constructions (OPC) Private is basically a one-person operation in terms of ownership, but we have a few hands who help out when the work gets heavy. We are located at Haobam Marak Ngangom Leikai, specifically at Bridoliya Maisnam’s place. This part of Imphal is usually quite busy, especially with all the electrical department stuff going on nearby. You can often hear the noise from the road while we are trying to do our paperwork. We don't have a big corporate setup. It is more of a home-based office where we keep our files and meet with clients to talk about their plans. Construction in this part of Manipur is always a bit of a challenge because of the weather and how narrow some of the lanes are. Getting a big truck into some of these Leikais is a real art form. We’ve had to learn how to manage with smaller loads sometimes. The guys who work with me are all local, so they know the shortcuts and which shops have the best prices for bricks this week. We don't promise anything fancy. We just show up, do the masonry or the woodwork, and try to make sure everything is level. It’s a lot of physical labor and being out in the sun all day. We’ve been at this for a bit now, and we just take things one day at a time. It's a simple business for simple building needs.
