Rims Hospital

This part of Rims Hospital is specifically the Department Of Anaesthesia & Intensive Care Unit. It’s a very different vibe from the rest of the main building. Things are a lot quieter here, but they are also much more intense for the staff. We spend our shifts monitoring the screens and making sure our patients are staying stable. It’s a lot of sitting and watching carefully, then suddenly everything can move very fast if an alarm goes off. The equipment is always humming in the background, which becomes a sound you just get used to. We don't get as many visitors as the general wards, mainly because of the strict rules here. Our team stays close together because the work is so specific and we have to trust each other. We have to be on top of every little change at all times. It's not the kind of place where you have a lot of small talk during the shift. We focus on the numbers and the machines. Sometimes it’s a bit cold in here because of the climate control needed for all the electronic gear. We take our breaks when we can, usually just a quick cup of tea in the small side room. It’s a specialized area, so the staff here has been trained for exactly this kind of pressure. We aren't out in the front lobby where the crowd is; we are tucked away where the most critical work happens. We just keep doing what is necessary for the people in our care.
