Biro Foundation

Our foundation is based at House No- 154, Patta No- 1098 in Uripok Achom Keikai, which is in Imphal West. It’s a residential area, so it’s pretty calm most of the time. We work out of the house because it keeps our costs low and lets us stay close to the community. You’ll find us there most mornings, usually drinking tea and going over the plans for the week. We handle a variety of local issues. It’s not always the same thing every day. One day we might be helping someone with paperwork and the next we might be organizing a small local gathering. We don’t have a big staff, just a couple of people who live nearby. The house is old but it serves us well. We’ve got some desks set up in the main room and that’s where all the magic happens, if you want to call it that. It’s mostly just hard work and a lot of phone calls. We don’t have any fancy mission statements on the walls. We just know what needs to be done and we try to do it. People in Uripok Achom Keikai know where we are. They stop by if they have a question or just want to see what we’re up to. It’s a very informal way of running things, but it works for us and for the people we serve. The street outside can get a bit muddy when it rains, so we're always cleaning the floor. It’s just something you deal with. We don’t mind the extra work if it means we keep this place open.
