Our place is way out in Idukki, Kerala, at Kallidukkil House in the Thankamany area. If you’ve ever been to this district, you know the roads are winding and the hills are everywhere you look. It’s a beautiful place to live, even if getting around takes a bit longer than it does in the flat lands. We run things from here, and it’s very much a local, family-style operation. Jins Thomas handles a lot of the day-to-day stuff. The house actually doubles as our workspace, so there’s always a bit of life happening around the office area. We deal with a lot of rain in this part of the country, so we are always thinking about how to keep things dry for our clients. That’s basically what our work is all about. We talk to people in the local villages and help them with their buildings. It’s not like working in a city where everything is glass and steel. Here, it’s more about the soil, the trees, and the weather. We have our tea in the mornings looking out at the greenery before we head out to wherever the work is that day. Sometimes the internet is slow or the power goes out when there’s a big storm, but we’re used to it. We just keep moving forward with whatever needs doing. It’s a quiet life, but the work is steady and it keeps us busy through all the seasons.
