Allus Global Spice Trade Links Private Limited is based out of the Allus Cardamom Building in Vandanmed. If you know the area, it’s building number 57/H/XVIII. Idukki is famous for its spices, especially cardamom, and that is basically our whole world. The air around the warehouse always smells like green pods. It’s a strong, sharp scent that sticks to your clothes long after you go home. We spend our days grading the harvest and making sure everything is dry. Vandanmed is a small place but when it’s harvest season, things get very hectic. Trucks come and go from the plantations up in the hills constantly. We have a small office staff and a few guys handling the heavy bags in the back. It’s hard physical work. The weather up here in the mountains can be unpredictable. Sometimes the mist is so thick in the morning you can barely see the road across from the gate. We’ve had to deal with power cuts and slow internet, but we manage. People here take their spices seriously. We aren't trying to be the biggest company out there, just trying to get the local crops to where they need to go. It’s a lot of checking for quality and talking to the farmers about their yield. Most of us live nearby, so the commute isn't too bad unless it's monsoon season. Then the roads get messy and slippery. We just keep working and hope for a good season each year.
