The Kcp Cements Macherla

Down here in Macherla, in the Guntur district, things move at a certain pace. Our work is centered around the cement plant, and S.J.V.R. Murthy is usually the one keeping an eye on the instrumentation side of things as a senior engineer. It’s a lot of technical work, making sure all the sensors and gauges are reading right so the production doesn't stop. The office is right there at the plant site, so you can always hear the hum of the machinery in the background. It’s a bit dusty, as you’d expect at a cement place, but we don't mind it much. We spend a lot of our time looking at diagrams and fixing parts that have worn down from all the heavy use. It’s not the kind of job where you wear a suit and tie. Most of us are in work clothes, carrying around tools or clipboards. We have our tea breaks together and talk about how to get the machinery running more smoothly. The heat in Andhra Pradesh can be tough in the summer, especially out here by the kilns, but we just keep at it. It’s important work because the cement we make goes into building homes and roads all over the state. We’re just a group of engineers and workers trying to do our jobs right and keep the plant in good shape. It’s a noisy, busy place, but it feels like we’re making something useful every day.
