If you know RP Road, you know how crowded it gets with all the shops and the people rushing by. Our shop, S R Lights, is at 4 3 2. It’s not a huge place, but we’ve managed to pack a lot of different fixtures and bulbs into every corner. Sometimes I feel like I’m walking through a cave of glass when I go to the back to find a specific part. We deal with all sorts of lighting, from basic stuff for a small room to things that people want for bigger projects. It’s a lot of testing bulbs and checking connections to make sure nothing flickers. People come in with broken lamps or just a drawing of a room they’re trying to brighten up. We don't have a fancy showroom with expensive carpets. It’s just a shop floor with shelves and a counter that’s seen better days. RP Road has been our home for a while now, and we’ve seen shops come and go, but we just keep the lights on, literally. It’s a lot of chatting with regulars and trying to find where we put that one specific box of connectors. The fan in the ceiling makes a bit of a clicking noise, but we’ve gotten used to it. We just focus on getting the right light to the right person without making a big deal out of it. Most evenings, we sit by the entrance for a few minutes just to watch the street traffic move.
