Surya Lakshmi Cotton Mills Ltd.

We’re up on the 6th floor of Surya Towers. It’s a busy building and we’ve been here for quite some time now. Cotton is what we know. It’s been the focus for as long as I can remember. Running Surya Lakshmi Cotton Mills Ltd. from an office building means a lot of coordination. We have to keep track of the cotton coming in from the fields and the fabric going out to the markets. It’s a lot of paperwork and phone calls, honestly. Sometimes the elevators in this building are slow, and you end up talking to someone from another floor while you wait. That’s just how it is. We aren't trying to be the biggest name in the world, just a reliable one. The textile business has its ups and downs, prices change every day, and you just have to hope you made the right calls. We don’t use any of those big marketing slogans. We just try to make sure the quality of the yarn and fabric is decent enough for people to keep coming back. Our office is usually full of samples—bits of thread and cloth everywhere. It’s a bit messy, but it shows we’re actually working. It feels good to see the finished product after all the effort we put in. We take our lunch breaks together when we can, and then it’s back to the phones. It’s just how we get through the week.
