If you're driving down Attapur Ring Road, you probably know the Indian Oil Petrol Pump. We are right near there at 2-5-19/F. The shop isn't much to look at from the outside, just a typical garage with grease on the floor and tools everywhere. We spend most of the day under car hoods or lying on crawl boards. It gets hot in the afternoons, especially with the sun hitting the Ring Road tarmac. The noise from the traffic is constant but you get used to it after a week or two. We’ve had this spot for some time now. People bring their vehicles here when something sounds wrong or needs a quick look. There's no fancy waiting room with coffee or television. Usually, folks just stand around and talk to us while we work on their engines or change the oil. Our hands are almost always black from the carbon and grease. It’s honest work. Sometimes the parts don't arrive on time and we have to call around, which is the frustrating part of the job. But mostly, it’s just the daily routine of fixing what’s broken. We know the regulars by their cars more than their names sometimes. The Indian Oil pump next door is a good landmark for people trying to find us for the first time. We just keep our heads down and do the repairs as they come in. It’s a busy life here in Attapur.
