We’ve been here at Varalaxmi Market Complex for a good while now. Most folks around Ranigunj know our spot because we are up on the first floor in shop numbers forty-nine and fifty. It is a very busy area on M. G. Road, and the noise from the traffic downstairs never really stops during the day. Our workplace isn’t fancy at all; it’s just a regular room where we handle different kinds of rubber goods. Sometimes the stairs up to the first floor feel a bit steep, especially when we have to carry boxes of stock up and down. We usually leave the doors open to let some air in, so we see everyone walking by in the corridor. Dealing with rubber all day means there is a bit of a strong smell inside, but we don't even notice it anymore after all these years. We try to keep things in their right place, but sometimes the piles of inventory get pretty high when a big delivery comes in from the suppliers. It’s mostly just a few of us here, including my brother. We don’t have a big office or a bunch of staff in suits. People just come in, tell us what they are looking for, and we dig through the shelves to find it. It is how we have always done things. Ranigunj is a bit of a tight space, but we make it work with what we have. We might not have a big shiny sign outside, but everyone knows where we are.
