If you look for us in Vayalpad, you will find our office near the railway station. It is handled by Smd Nawaz and is a key spot for the Nregs work in the Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh. The station is so close that we can hear the announcements for the passenger trains all day long. The office is a simple room with a few wooden tables and a lot of registers. We deal with a lot of people from the nearby villages who come in to check their job cards or ask about the next project. It gets quite crowded on Monday mornings. The heat in Chittoor can be pretty intense, so we usually keep the doors open to let some air in, even if it brings in the dust from the station road. We don't have fancy computers or a cooling system; it's mostly manual work and face-to-face talk. Smd Nawaz is usually here from early morning to late evening, keeping track of everything. The walls have some old posters about government schemes, but otherwise, it's quite plain. It's a busy little hub where the rural employment tasks get sorted out. We drink water from a clay pot to stay cool and share news about the local rains and the crops. It's an honest place where we try to help the locals get through the paperwork. It’s just a part of the daily life here in Vayalpad.
