Our diagnostic centre is located in Tolichowki, over in the Samta Colony area. The house number is 8-1-41/J/54, and it’s a place people come to when they aren’t feeling their best. We open up early in the morning because that is when most people need to get their blood drawn before they eat breakfast. You can usually find a few people waiting outside before we even get the keys in the door. Inside, it’s mostly white walls and the sound of printers spitting out reports. We have a small area for people to sit, and we try to keep the magazines somewhat updated, though they usually end up in a mess. The staff spends the day labeling vials and talking to patients about when their results will be ready. Tolichowki is a busy part of Hyderabad, so there’s always noise from the street coming in. We are just a regular neighborhood lab, nothing too fancy or high-tech to look at from the outside. We focus on getting the needles in and out quickly and making sure the samples get to the right machines for testing. By the afternoon, things usually quiet down a bit and we can catch up on cleaning and restocking the cotton swabs and bandages. It’s a steady routine of paperwork and patients that keeps us going from Monday through Saturday every single week. We just do the tests and hand over the papers as fast as we can.
