Andhra Timber Packing Industries

Down in Kukatpally at Bagh E Ameer we have our timber yard. It’s at house number 3/90. You can smell the wood as soon as you turn into the lane. We spend a lot of time cutting and sizing timber for packing cases. It’s a messy job with sawdust everywhere. My shirt usually has wood chips on it by noon. We started this because we knew how to handle wood. We make sure the crates are strong enough to hold whatever goes inside them. The yard isn't huge but we make it work. Sometimes it’s a bit cramped when a big delivery comes in. We don't have a big fancy office with air conditioning. We just have a desk and some ledgers. The traffic in Kukatpally can be a headache when we’re trying to move the trucks out. But we’ve been here long enough to know the shortcuts. People know us for being reliable with the wood we use. We don't use the cheap stuff if it's going to break. It’s just me and a few guys doing the heavy lifting. We drink a lot of tea while we work. The rainy season is tough because everything gets damp. We just cover the piles with plastic and wait it out. It's a simple life at the mill. We just keep our heads down and do the work day after day.
