We are located at 11-1-173 in the Agapura area, right by the Dhobighat. It is an old part of town and everyone knows where the washing gets done. Our days start very early, often before the sun is even up properly. There is a lot of water and soap around all the time. We handle piles of clothes from all sorts of people and places. It’s heavy work, especially when the blankets are wet. We have some machines, but a lot of it is still done by hand because that is how we learned it. The lines are always full of drying sheets when the weather is good. If it rains, we have to scramble to get everything under cover quickly. It gets humid and the smell of detergent is everywhere. We don't have a front office with a desk. People just drop their bundles off and we mark them down in a notebook so we don't lose track. It is a family thing mostly, with everyone pitching in when things get busy during the wedding season. Sometimes the iron takes a while to heat up properly. We just keep moving through the stacks until the floor is clear. It’s honest work and we have been in Agapura for years. The neighbors often stop by to chat while we are hanging out the laundry to dry under the morning sun.
