Pipe Supports Co is tucked away at Plot No 7, which is part of that 24/113/11 block. It is an industrial area where there is always the sound of someone grinding metal or a truck backing up somewhere nearby. We spend our days working with steel and iron to make the brackets and stands that keep pipes in place. It is heavy work and my hands are usually covered in some kind of grit by lunchtime. We have a few big machines that take up most of the floor space, leaving just enough room for us to move around without bumping into each other. The roof is made of corrugated metal, so when it rains, it gets so loud in here that you cannot hear the person standing right next to you. We do not have any fancy brochures or a salesperson in a suit. If you want to know what we do, you just have to look at the piles of metal waiting to be shipped out. We take our time to make sure things are cut right, but we do not make a big fuss about it. It is just what we do to pay the bills. The coffee we make in the morning is probably too strong, but it gets us through the early hours when the shop is still cold. We just keep at it until the job is done.
