Being up on the first floor at P No D 12 in IDA Kukatpally gives us a bit of a different view of Gandhi Nagar. It’s not a huge place, but we make it work for what we do. Most of the time, the air is thick with the smell of whatever compounds we are mixing that day. It is technical work, but it feels very hands-on when you’re actually doing it. We’ve got our routines down pretty well by now. One person handles the scales, another watches the temperatures. It’s not a glamorous job and the floor usually has some kind of stain on it that won't come out, no matter how much we scrub. We started this because we knew the area and saw an opportunity in the industrial estate. There are plenty of other shops around us, so there’s always noise coming through the walls. We don't spend much on decorations or fancy furniture. Most of our money goes into the equipment and making sure we have enough raw materials in the back. Sometimes the power goes out and we just sit around and talk until it comes back on. It’s those quiet moments that remind me why I like having a local business. We aren't a big corporation with thousands of employees. We are just a few people trying to get the mixes right every single day. It can be exhausting, but at the end of the shift, we know we put in a full day.
