We've been here in R.N Colony for quite a bit now. It’s a busy spot in Saidabad, especially when the weather gets hot and everyone’s car battery starts acting up at once. Emkay Batteries isn't a fancy place with a big glass front. It’s mostly just us surrounded by stacks of heavy black boxes and the smell of acid and old lead. My desk is usually covered in receipts and half-drunk cups of tea because someone is always stopping by to chat or ask if we can charge a battery overnight. It gets a bit cramped in here when three people are waiting at the same time, but we manage. Most folks around here know the house number by heart now. We don't do much fancy talk. If a battery is dead, we tell you it’s dead. If it can be saved, we try. It’s just how things go. Sometimes the delivery truck blocks the narrow road and the neighbors complain, but we try to move fast. There’s always work to do, whether it’s checking a tractor battery or finding something for a small motorcycle. It’s not the quietest job, but being right here in the colony means we see a lot of the same faces every week. That makes the long days go by a lot faster than you’d think.
