Durga Gift And Novelty

Our little shop, Durga Gift And Novelty, is down in the cellar of the VCR Complex in Begum Bazar. If you know the Feelkhana area, you know how busy it gets with all the crowds and the narrow lanes. We have been in this spot for a while now, surrounded by all sorts of things like small statues, showpieces, and little items that people like to give as presents. Being in a cellar means it stays a bit cooler than the street outside, which is a relief when it is hot out. We spend a lot of time unpacking boxes and trying to find room on the shelves for new stuff that arrives. It is a bit of a maze in here sometimes. We get a lot of regulars who come in looking for something specific for a wedding or a birthday party. Sometimes we are just chatting with neighbors while we arrange the glass cases. It is not a very big space, so we have to be careful not to knock anything over when we are moving around. Begum Bazar is always moving fast with carts and rickshaws, but down here in the complex, things feel a little more relaxed and quiet. We just open up the shutters in the morning and see who comes down the stairs to look at the shelves. It is honest work and we enjoy seeing the familiar faces from the market every day.
