Deepak Chand Zariwala

Deepak Chand Zariwala is located in the heart of the old city, at 20-4-1186 near Charminar in Laad Bazaar. This area is famous for bangles and embroidery, and we are right in the thick of it. The shop is very narrow, and the walls are covered with spools of zari thread in every shade of gold and silver you can imagine. We’ve been working with these threads for a long time, supplying local tailors and designers who make wedding outfits. The street outside is always full of people, motorcycles, and the smell of street food. It’s very loud, but inside we focus on the fine work of checking the quality of the thread. We don't have a computer or any modern filing system. Everything is written down in large ledgers with ink pens. Sometimes it’s hard to find a specific color when the shop gets busy, and we end up moving dozens of boxes just to find one particular spool. My sons help me out, and we usually have a helper who brings us tea from the stall around the corner. We aren't looking to expand or move to a modern mall because the soul of our work is here in Laad Bazaar. People know they can find us here six days a week, sitting among our threads. It’s a traditional way of life, and though it’s tiring for the eyes, we are proud of the work we do.
