We’ve been at 142 Ida for a long time now. It’s Phase II of Cherlapally, which is a bit of a trek for some folks who aren't from this side of Hyderabad. The building is big but functional, not much to look at from the street. Inside, it's mostly lab space and desks piled with reports. We have a lot of samples coming in every morning. The security guard at the gate knows almost everyone by their first name because half of us have worked here for years. It gets pretty hot in the afternoons, but the lab rooms stay cold because of the machines. We spend a lot of time checking the instruments and writing things down in logs. There’s a small break room where the kettle is always on. We talk about the cricket scores or whatever is going on in the city while we drink our chai. Sometimes the power flutters and we all have to wait for the generators to kick in. It’s just part of the routine here. We don't have fancy office chairs or a big reception area with flowers. It’s a working lab, so we focus on the vials and the data. The parking lot is a bit of a mess during the monsoon, but we manage. People who come here know we just get on with it. It isn't a flashy place, but it works for us and the work we do every day.
