S S Printers is tucked away in Jamalmarket, over in the Chattabazar area of Hyderabad. If you have ever been to this market, you know how narrow the lanes are and how many people are always moving about. Our shop is at 22-8-48/2. The first thing you notice when you walk in is the smell. It is that heavy scent of ink and paper that never really goes away. We have a few printing machines that are almost always running. They make a rhythmic thumping sound that we have all learned to ignore over the years. My clothes usually have a little smudge of blue or black ink somewhere by the end of the shift. We do all sorts of printing work, mostly for local folks or other businesses in the market. The shop is a bit cluttered because we have stacks of paper everywhere and boxes of finished jobs waiting to be picked up. There is not much room to move around, but we know where everything is. Jamalmarket is a loud place, with vendors shouting and scooters weaving through the crowds. We usually get a snack from one of the carts outside when we have a break. It is hard work, and the hours can be long, but there is something satisfying about seeing the final printed pages come out right. We have been part of this neighborhood for years and would not really want to be anywhere else. It is our little corner of the market.
