Our shop is located at Ot-14-6-5 right in the middle of Begum Bazar. If you know anything about this area, you know it is always crowded and moving. We deal with fabrics and matching materials, so the shop is just filled with rolls of cloth in every color you can think of. It’s a bit of a chaotic sight with threads and bits of fabric everywhere. People come in with a small piece of cloth and ask us to find the exact same shade, which can take some time. We spend our hours pulling down bolts of fabric and measuring out meters for customers. The noise from the street is constant—horns, people shouting, and the general bustle of the market. It’s a small space, and when it gets busy, it’s really hard to move around. We don’t have fancy displays; the cloth is the main thing people are here for. Sometimes we are still sorting through stock late into the evening after the shutters are mostly down. It’s a lot of standing and reaching for high shelves. We just try to help folks find the right match for their outfits. The market life is tiring, but we’ve been part of it for a long time. It’s just how things are done here in the bazaar, one meter of cloth at a time.
