Prakash Cloth Stores is located at 4-2-200 in Badichowdi, right in the heart of Hyderabad. The shop is filled from floor to ceiling with rolls of different fabrics. It’s a very old-school setup where you have to climb a small ladder sometimes to reach the stuff on the top shelves. The street outside is one of the busiest in the city, and the sound of traffic is constant. We’ve been here for a long time, and some of our customers have been coming to us for years. It’s a family-style environment where we know people’s names and what they usually like to buy. We don't have air conditioning, just a few old ceiling fans that buzz while they spin. Folding the cloth back up after showing it to a customer takes up a lot of our day. The wooden counters are worn smooth from all the fabric that has been slid across them over the decades. Sometimes it gets so crowded in the shop that there is hardly room to move. We don't do any big advertising or have a website. People just see the sign when they are walking through Badichowdi and come in to see what we have. It’s a simple business based on selling cloth at a price that makes sense for everyone. When the sun goes down, we roll down the shutters and head home like the rest of the market.
