Azimullah Carpets

Azimullah Carpets is right here on Station Road. It's busy outside most days with the trains and people rushing past. I've been opening the doors early for years. The carpets are stacked high. It gets dusty, but that's just part of it. Some days it’s quiet, just the sound of the traffic. People stop in because they see the sign while walking to the station. We move things around a lot to make space. It isn't a fancy showroom. There are rolls everywhere, different patterns and colors. Sometimes the tea man comes by and we take a break. My hands are usually a bit rough from handling the heavy wool. It’s hard work, lifting and rolling these all day long. If someone wants to look at something at the bottom of the pile, well, we just have to move everything. It takes time. The light inside isn't great in the evenings, but we know where everything is. Station Road has changed quite a bit since we started, more shops now. We just stay here doing our thing. It's a simple life. We don't have a big staff, just a couple of us helping out. The floor is concrete and we keep it swept. Most people who come in live nearby. They know us by name. It’s just a local spot for rugs and carpets. We keep the doors open even when it’s raining. It can get cold in winter, but we just wear extra layers and keep working.
