Our office is at Plot No 15 in Shirdisai Nagar, specifically in the Hasthinapuram Colony Central area along Nagarjuna Sagar Road in Hyderabad. It is a bit of a trek for some of us to get here, but the neighborhood is okay. We work under the public health engineering department, which mostly means we deal with the city's water and sanitation projects. The building is a regular structure, nothing like the big IT towers you see in other parts of Hyderabad. We have a lot of charts on the walls and old maps that show where all the main lines run under the streets. It’s often quite busy with staff coming in to report on various leaks or new installations happening down the road. The tea lady comes by twice a day, and that’s usually when we take a short break from the files. We don’t use any corporate jargon or have big meetings about vision and stuff. We just look at what’s broken and try to get the crews out to fix it. The phone rings a lot with people asking when their area will get better pressure. It is honest work and can be frustrating when the weather is bad or the equipment breaks down. We just keep plugging away at the tasks assigned to us each week. There is always a lot of paperwork to file away at the end of the day before we head home.
