Hindustan Zinc Limited

Our spot is Sf-16 in the Engineers Hostel within the Zinc Colony area of Chittorgarh. It’s a practical place to be if you’re working for Hindustan Zinc Limited because everything is right here in the colony. The building itself has seen a lot of years, but it’s sturdy and it does the job for us. We spend most of our hours in this room dealing with the technical side of the business. It gets a bit cramped when the whole team is in at once, especially with all the blueprints and thick manuals lying around on the desks. You get used to the noise of the fans and the constant chatter from the other engineers in the hallway. We aren't here to impress anyone with a fancy lobby or fancy furniture. It’s just a workplace where we keep track of what’s happening at the site every day. The windows look out over the colony houses, and you can see people coming and going at all hours. Sometimes the dust from the road gets inside, so we’re always wiping down the desks before we start. We drink a lot of tea and talk about the day's problems until we find a way to fix them. It’s a simple life, mostly focused on the metal and the machinery we handle. Rajasthan is a tough place to work sometimes because of the heat, but the colony feels like home now. We just keep our heads down and do the work.
