People around Bazar Colony in Hooghly know where we are. It is just a plain building where we spend our days helping people get their teaching degrees. The rooms are usually full of students who come from all over the district. We have been here for a bit now, and the routine stays mostly the same. You walk in and see the notice boards covered in old schedules and some handwritten notes. There is no fancy lobby or anything like that, just a front desk where someone is usually sorting through paperwork. The fans hum all day long because it gets quite warm in Hooghly during the summer months. Our staff knows everyone’s name, and we mostly just focus on getting through the syllabus without too much fuss. In the mornings, you can hear the traffic from the colony coming inside, but it settles down once the lectures start. We have got some old wooden benches and a few newer plastic ones. It is not a shiny new place, but it works for what we need. Sometimes the power goes out and we just open the windows and keep going with the lessons. We drink a lot of tea in the staff room between classes. It is just a regular place for regular people trying to start a career in teaching. We do not have big speeches here, just the daily work of going through textbooks and taking notes for the exams.
