Vishal General Variety Store

Our store is located at 24/25, Bhairab Dutta Lane, over in the Salkia area of Howrah. We are quite close to the Bajrong Bali Mandir, so we often hear the bells and the prayers during the day. Vishal General Variety Store is a small business, and like the name says, we try to keep a bit of variety on hand. You can find almost any small household thing here if you look long enough. The lane is quite narrow, so when a rickshaw passes by, everyone has to move to the side. It makes for a very lively atmosphere, even if it’s a bit cramped at times. We spend most of our day behind the counter, reaching for things on the high shelves for our customers. Howrah is a place that never really stops, and Bhairab Dutta Lane is no exception. We get all sorts of people coming in, from neighbors we’ve known for twenty years to strangers just passing through the temple area. We don’t have a big marketing plan or anything. We just open the doors in the morning and see who comes by. Sometimes the stock gets a bit messy, especially on delivery days when there are bags and boxes everywhere, but we tidy up when we can. It’s a honest way to spend the day. We are just local people running a local shop for our neighbors, and that seems to work out fine.
