Tapan General Store

Down on Bauria Station Road, things move pretty fast because of the trains. Our store is one of those places where you can find a bit of everything if you look long enough. We stay open late most nights because that is when people are coming home to Fortgloster and they realize they are out of cooking oil or salt. The front of the shop is usually cluttered with crates because there isn't much storage space in the back. Howrah is a busy place and being near the station means we see a lot of different faces every day. We try to keep the basic stuff like pulses and grains in stock at all times. The floor is concrete and shows its age, but it gets swept a couple of times a day. We have a small radio that plays in the background, mostly news or some old songs. Sometimes the rain comes down hard and people crowd inside the doorway to stay dry while they wait for a rickshaw. We don't have any fancy displays or bright lights. It's just wooden shelves and a heavy counter where we weigh things out. It can be a bit chaotic when three people want different things at once and the phone is ringing. We just do our best to get everyone what they need so they can get home to their families and get their dinners started.
