We are based over in Shibpur, right in the heart of Howrah. It’s a crowded area, but it puts us close to where a lot of the action is. Our office isn't anything special to look at. It's mostly just a place where we store the surveying gear and keep the records for the different projects we have going on. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but we’re usually too busy out on the road to worry about that. Living and working in Howrah means you get used to the noise and the narrow streets. We’ve had to get pretty good at maneuvering the heavy machinery through some tight spots. Some days it feels like we spend more time planning the route for the trucks than actually building anything. We keep a small crew and most of us have been working together for years. We know who’s good at what. There’s a lot of paperwork involved in this business, which none of us really enjoy, but it’s part of the deal. We take our breaks when we can, usually getting some snacks from the local vendors. It’s a messy job, and we usually go home covered in cement dust or grease. We just focus on getting the work done right so we can move on to the next site without any lingering problems. Every day brings something new to fix at the yard in 711102.
