Shree Durga Stores

Shree Durga Stores is on Station Road in Amta, Howrah. We are a general store that tries to keep a little bit of everything in stock. You can find things like washing powder, matches, and packets of snacks on our shelves. Because we are near the station, we get a lot of different people coming through. I try to keep the shelves organized, but with so many items in a small space, it usually gets a bit messy by the end of the day. Many of our customers live in the small lanes nearby and stop in every day for their small needs. We have a little chat while I count out their change. It’s just me and my cousin running the place most of the time. We open early when the first trains are running and stay until it gets dark. The dust from the road is a bit of a problem, so we spend a lot of time cleaning the counters with a cloth. We don't have any computers or fancy gadgets here. We just know where we keep everything and how much it costs. Sometimes when the delivery trucks come, we have to carry the heavy crates ourselves, which is hard work. We aren't trying to be the biggest store in town. We just want to provide what the neighborhood needs and keep things going.
