Shaw General Store

Shaw General Store sits on Mahendra Bhatta Road here in Howrah. This part of Chakraberia is always moving, and we are right in the middle of it. We carry all sorts of things that people need for their homes. You can find everything from cleaning supplies to cooking oil on our shelves. The shop is a bit small, so things are tucked away in every corner. We have been here in West Bengal for a good while now. Most days are spent unpacking boxes and putting things away. It’s not the most exciting work, but it keeps the neighborhood going. We don't use any fancy systems, just a simple way of doing things. Sometimes it’s quiet, and other times everyone shows up at once. We like being part of the community here. If someone is short a few rupees, we usually work it out. That's how it is with local shops. The address is easy to find if you know the area well. We keep the doors open for most of the day. There is no big sign or flashing lights, just our name and the goods inside. People stop by to chat as much as they do to shop. It feels like home to us after all these years behind the counter. We just try to have what people need when they need it for their daily chores.
