Sarada Variety Stores

Sarada Variety Stores has been on Amta College Road for a while now. It is a small shop where we sell a bit of everything, from soap and toothpaste to small snacks for the kids. The building is older and the ceiling fan makes a bit of a clicking sound, but it keeps us cool enough in the summer heat. We aren't a big store with glass doors and air conditioning. Most of our customers are locals who live in the houses behind the main road or students walking to the college. I spend a lot of my time sitting behind the wooden counter, watching the people go by outside. When it rains, the street gets quite muddy and things slow down, but usually, there is a steady flow of people. We don't have a big sign, just the name Sarada painted above the entrance. We use old-fashioned paper bags for most things and write down our accounts in a thick ledger book. It’s a simple way of doing things that has worked for us for years. Sometimes we have a chat with the neighbors about the local news while they decide what to buy. We don't try to compete with the bigger shops in the city. We are just a local spot where you can find the basics without having to travel too far. It’s a quiet and honest way to spend the day in Amta.
